Armed robbers kill journalist in Bayelsa

Tragedy hit the journalism profession in Bayelsa State on Easter Day, as armed robbers shot dead a journalist, Famous Giobaro.

Giobaro, popularly known as the ‘Famous Man,’ an editor with the Bayelsa  State-owned Radio Station, Glory FM 97.1,  was shot dead at his residence located on INEC Road, Kpansia, Yenagoa.
According to investigations, the suspected robbers stormed the area at about 5am and attempted to gained entrance into his residence but the deceased blocked his door, in resistance.
The robbers shot through the door, to break his resistance, and in the process bullets hit him in the stomach.
It was gathered that the robbers eventually gained entrance into his apartment and again shot him several times before escaping from the area, on hearing the approaching police patrol team.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said investigations were on going.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa Council, has expressed deep shock over the killing of Giobaro by armed robbers.
The union, in a statement by its Chairman, John Angese and secretary, Stanley Imgbi, said the news of the death of Giobaro was a big blow to journalism in Bayelsa state.
The union called on the police to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.
